Dr. Francisco J. Garcia

Dr. Francisco Garcia graduated in Urology at Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry in London, Ontario and pursued an interest in sexual medicine with a fellowship in andrology, penile reconstruction and implantation. During his training he felt he wanted a more complete understanding of sexual medicine and sought training independently to include female sexual dysfunction into his practice. He is still very much a general Urologist and finds that being general allows a more comprehensive understanding of the sexual health problems patients present with. He has made rural Saskatchewan his home in Swift Current, and has created a centre of excellence in sexual medicine outside the usual confines of an academic centre. He is also double board certified both in Canada as well as the United States of America, and periodically does assist other rural communities with locum work. He is also one of the few physicians in Canada to be recognized by the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH) having attained the training and expertise to be considered a fellow of the society.

Dr. Garcia has settled well into rural Saskatchewan and has found that the rural community and health care system have only improved the comprehensive sexual health and urological care he can provide. He participates in the training of local family physicians within the residency program within Swift Current, as well as contributing as a lecturer for the University of Saskatchewan medical school on Urologic and Sexual Health topics. He has also been invited to speak at national meetings on rural medicine and how to provide urologic and sexual health in these communities. He is a strong advocate for the importance of early, accurate and transparent sexual education in schools.

Dr. Garcia has also constantly pushed to keep up to date with current techniques and technologies, and participate in pushing forward new ideas where possible. He has been instrumental in bringing a surgical laser to Cypress Regional Hospital to open up urologic procedures and open the door for stone treatments, has worked with researchers in Regina to bring forward new treatments for chronic pain disorders (loin pain hematuria syndrome), and was the first to bring minimally invasive prostate procedures to Saskatchewan (Rezum water vapour therapy).
